First thing’s first, I am sure you guys are wondering; What on earth is “Hantam”?

I originate from Malaysia/Singapore, and the word “hantam” [huhn- tahm] is a Malay derived word which essentially means to do something randomly or purely on the basis of luck AKA winging it!

Why hantam? It’s because that’s pretty much what I do in the kitchen. I see something, I keep thinking about it and then the urge to imitate it arises, resulting in me just hantam-ing what I think would work best for the dish.

I’m doing this to record and share all my recipes which I’ve tried and tested, based on my amateur experience as a home cook. A huge part of my cooking obsession and skills come from my grandmother and late mother, both of whom inspired me tremendously in this part of my life. The recipes you see here would be based on my mindless watching of food shows on the telly along with videos I have seen on the internet.

Like most home cooks, I am still and will be constantly learning and growing. I’ve been cooking since age 12, and hope to continue this journey for as long as I can!

It took me 10 years to finally decide to create this! I hope this space would allow everyone to have a positive outlook towards cooking at home, even with minimal skills.
